Adjectives describe nouns. In English, the rules for using adjectives are simple β let's learn them! π―
1. Adjective + Noun (before the noun) β
When we use an adjective with a noun, the adjective goes before the noun.
- It's an expensive guitar. β
It's a guitar expensive. β
- She has a new car. β
She has a car new. β
2. Be + Adjective (after the verb) β
We can also use adjectives after the verb be, without a noun.
- This guitar is expensive. β
- Her car is new. β
- Is this restaurant good? β
3. Sense Verbs + Adjective πποΈ
We can also use adjectives after verbs of the senses: feel, look, smell, sound, taste.
- You look tired. β
- This soup tastes horrible. β
- Your idea sounds interesting. β
- These cookies smell delicious. β
4. Adjectives have NO plural form β οΈ
- These are my favourite shoes. β
These are my favourites shoes. β
- She has blue eyes. β
She has blues eyes. β
5. Very and Quite π’
Use very or quite before an adjective to add degree.
- It's very expensive. β
- It's quite cold today. β
