To make a question, put do, does, is or are before the subject. Say Do you like tea?, not You like tea?
For the verb be, swap the subject and the verb: You are ready. → Are you ready? For every other verb, add do (I/you/we/they) or does (he/she/it) before the subject, and keep the main verb in its base form: She plays tennis. → Does she play tennis?, never Does she plays tennis?
For a wh-question, put the question word (what, where, when, who, how) first, then follow the same do/does/is/are pattern: Where do you live?
| Verb type | Question form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| be | swap subject and be | Are you ready? |
| other verbs (I/you/we/they) | Do + subject + base verb | Do you like tea? |
| other verbs (he/she/it) | Does + subject + base verb | Does she play tennis? |
| wh-question | question word + do/does/is/are | Where do you live? |
