Üç veya daha fazla şeyi karşılaştırıp en uç olanı seçmek için, genellikle sıfat + -est ya da the most + sıfat biçiminde bir superlative adjective kullanılır. the biggest animal denir, the more big animal denmez.

Kural

Bir superlative her zaman önce the ister ve bir şeyi sadece iki değil, bütün bir grupla karşılaştırır. Kısa sıfatlar (tek heceli ve bazı iki heceliler) -est alır: tall → the tallest. Tek sesli harf + ünsüz varsa ünsüz ikilenir: big → the biggest. Sonu -y ile bitenler -i olur: heavy → the heaviest. Daha uzun sıfatlar bir ek yerine the most alır: dangerous → the most dangerous. Birkaç yaygın sıfat düzensizdir: good → the best, bad → the worst.
