A phrasal verb is a verb + preposition/adverb (like 'get' + 'up'). When you put them together, they create a completely new meaning. You must memorize them as a single vocabulary word!
| Phrasal Verb | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Wake up | Stop sleeping | I wake up at 7:00 AM. |
| Get up | Leave the bed | I wake up at 7:00, but I get up at 7:15. |
| Put on | Dress yourself | It is cold. Put on your jacket. |
| Take off | Remove clothes | Please take off your shoes inside. |
| Turn on/off | Start/stop a machine | Can you turn on the TV? |
| Look for | Try to find | I am looking for my keys. |
For some phrasal verbs (like put on / take off / turn on), you can put the object in the middle or at the end.
