The verb get is one of the most common words in English because it has four completely different meanings. You must look at the words after it to understand what it means!
| Meaning | Pattern | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Receive / Buy | get + noun | I got an email. / I got a new car. |
| 2. Become | get + adjective | I am getting hungry. / It is getting dark. |
| 3. Arrive | get to + place | Call me when you get to London. |
| 4. Bring / Fetch | get + object | Can you get me a glass of water? |
When you use 'get' to mean 'arrive', you usually use the preposition 'to' (get to work, get to school). But remember, the word 'home' is special!
