¿Qué son las question tags?

Una question tag es una pregunta corta al final de la oración que pide confirmación. En You are coming, aren't you, el tag es aren't you. Una oración afirmativa lleva tag negativo, y una negativa lleva tag positivo. El tag siempre repite el auxiliar de la oración principal.

¿Cuándo se usa un question tag positivo?

Se usa un tag positivo después de una oración negativa. En She cannot drive, can she, la oración es negativa por cannot, así que el tag es positivo: can she. Palabras como never, nobody y nothing también hacen negativa la oración: Nobody called, did they.

How do I choose the right question tag?

Look at the statement before the comma. Find its auxiliary — is, has, can — and use the same one in the tag. If there is no auxiliary, use do, does or did. Then flip: positive statement, negative tag; negative statement, positive tag.

Why is 'You speak Spanish, isn't it' wrong?

English does not use one universal tag. The tag copies the auxiliary of the sentence: speak is a present simple verb, so the tag needs do — don't you.

Arrived is past simple, so the tag needs did: didn't he. The other three sentences use the correct auxiliary.
